A-B InBev calls off sale of Beck’s

posted on November 30, 2009 in Beer Commentary

Anheuser-Busch InBev has called off a deal to sell the German beer brand Beck’s.

Wirtschaftswoche reports that the sale of 13 Eastern European breweries, approved last week, eased A-B InBev’s debt burden enough that it no longer needs to sell Beck’s.

U.S. buyout firm Bain Capital was set to buy Beck’s for $2.5 billion.

Coopers Sparkling Ale reviewed by Parrothead

posted on November 22, 2009 in Beer Recipe Reviews

Made this up with Sparkling Ale beer
kit, 1.5kg Light Malt Extract, 500gm
Light Dry Malt Extract, and some
Dextrose. This is the contents of the
package from MakeBeer.net. Now, the kit
was a bit out of date, but not by much.
The result is more malty and less hoppy
than the commercial product. In and of
itself, it’s still a very nice beer,
but not what I was expecting. I will try
this one again, and shoot for getting it
made before the expiration date – and
maybe add some hops. Suggestions,
anyone? Thanks!

Was on special for 8 dollars so I amde
it up with a Brigalow Mid Strength mix (
500g of Dextrose and Corn I think) and
500g LDM. Used tin yeast. After about
a month it is an acceptable hot weather
thirst quencher. Nothing complex. It
worked out better then I thought. For
the price and for a fishing or gardening
stubby not too bad.

ow my god i cannot describe the taste
from this beer. I’ll be the first to
admit i’m new to home brewing but this
would be by far one of the worst i’ve
tried. Its similar to what i imagine
spray and wipe would taste like.

out of Brewiser, tooheys and coopers,

problems. Excellent kit and will
definetly become my staple. Even the
commercial beer drinkers love this one.
Very highly recommended to all.

- Looking ahead. Deschutes Jubel will be back in February. From the press release: “This ‘Super Jubel’ was discovered by accident two decades ago when a clumsy burglar didn’t realize the weight of his stolen keg of Jubelale. He dropped it outside to freeze in the season’s sub-zero temperatures – only to be discovered the next morning by Gary Fish, Deschutes Brewery owner. More than half the liquid in the keg had frozen and the remaining beer was a very cold, highly concentrated ‘Jubelale on steroids.’ It was so good that the brewers set about recreating it, coming up with an annual ‘Super Jubel’ that is aged in oak barrels. A limited amount has been available on tap every year, 2010 will be only the second time that the brewery has bottled up this brew for sale. The first time it was available by bottle was a special millennium edition in 2000.”
